Green Team

Join us! The Dufief Green Team is open to all Dufief homeowners and renters. Its goals are:

● To undertake projects to enhance our common areas, using plants native to Maryland.  Such projects include the landscaping at the front entrance (from Rte 28), removal of invasive plants in common areas and enhancement of our traffic circles.
● To undertake projects that support residents who wish to create wildlife habitat in their yards, such as pollinator garden workshops, plant giveaways, yard visits to give pointers on getting started, etc.
● To enhance appreciation for the natural areas adjacent to our development by inviting residents to join nature walks on the Muddy Branch Park trail.

Contact us at Dufiefgreenteam@gmail.com. We will also be contacting the community via the Dufief Calendar. Your participation is welcome at any level, whether for a single project or
many!

Why a Green Team?

Upcoming Green Team Activities

Green Team Activities
Nature Walks
The Dufief Green Team holds monthly nature walks along the Muddy Branch Trail. We walk at a slow pace for approximately a two mile loop looking for birds, plants and wildlife of interest. Walks generally start at 9 a.m. at the Pollinator Gardens at Dufief Drive and Rte 28, alternating weekdays and weekends,  Dates for upcoming walks will be in the Readwood and also sent out via email.
You can also register your interest in attending future walks by emailing us at dufiefgreenteam@gmail.com so we can notify you directly.

Bring binoculars or let us know if you don’t have any. We’ll try to bring extras. Children are welcome to join us.

A list of plants and insects identified on these walks can be found HERE

Invasive Weed Removal Work Days
The Green Team holds invasive weed removal mornings in the spring and fall led by Green Team co-leader Roger Rasnake, a certified Montgomery County Weed Warrior.  We focus on removing garlic mustard, wineberry and multiflora rose around the pond.
Weed removal events are held on Saturday mornings from 9-11 a.m. and will be publicized in the Readwood and by email to all homeowners. You can also contact us at Dufiefgreenteam@gmail.com for information on upcoming work dates. Wear heavy gloves and bring loppers or small plant snips if you have them. We also bring extras.

L to r: Carolyn Carlson, Vin Kotraiah, Kevin McGrattan, Steve Walter, Roger Rasnake, Steve Walter, Ryan Nutter and Mariel Solomon removed invasive garlic mustard and wineberry at the pond in May.

Yard Visits:

Would you like to add native plants to your yard but don’t know where to start? Green Team members Roger Rasnake and Moira Davenport will make a ‘yard visit’ to give you pointers on plants that will do well in your landscape. Contact us at dufiefgreenteam@gmail.com
